Fractional
Yacht Ownership
|
For
a select group of discriminating individuals, the successful
and proven concept of fractional ownership in luxury resort
real-estate and private jets is now available for a luxurious
yacht.
• You own 10% of the yacht and use it for 4 weeks per
year during various seasons at a variety of ports
• You pay only 10% of the expenses of ownership
• YachtWise takes care of maintenance, management, and
concierge details
Research shows that typical yacht owners are on board their
vessels less than one month per year over the tenure of their
ownership. With a busy lifestyle, and only limited days available
to cruise each year, the intelligent choice is to participate
through fractional ownership. You OWN the yacht and only pay
a fraction of the cost.

Cost
of Ownership
Initial
Purchase Price
(Based
on an 80' luxury yacht valued at $3,000,000)
A 4 week ownership (10%) in the yacht's Limited Liability Company (LLC) is valued at $330,000
An initial capital funds/reserve account of $100,000 will be established by the LLC. The capital account fund, closing costs, and upgrades are included as part of the initial investment of $330,000.
Following a 5-year period of recreational use, the yacht will be sold at market value (unless owners choose to continue the LLC)
The residual amount netted from the LLC's sale of its assets (yacht and capital account) will be equally distributed to the owners (please see: Compare to Chartering)
Maintenance & Management

($30,000 per year)

Without the Burdens!
Compare
to Charter
Fractional Ownership over the 5-year period is considerably more
cost effective than chartering or 100% ownership.
Example: 80' luxury yacht (valued at $3,000,000) with a two-person
crew
100% Ownership
$3,300,000 Purchase Price (taxes, closing, upgrades, capital reserve)
$ 300,000 Annual Maintenance, crew, management
$3,600,000 First Year Costs
Chartering Costs
$80,000 Four weeks @ $20,000/week
$16,000 Crew gratuities @20%
$96,000 Annual chartering fee
x 5 years
$480,000 Five Year Total
Compared to:
YachtWise Fractional Ownership Costs
10% Fractional Ownership Share
$330,000 Purchase Price (10% share)
$150,000 Maintenance/Management fee ($30,000/yr for 5 yrs)
N/A Crew Gratuities
$480,000 Total
<$225,000> Returned upon sale of yacht after 5 years*
$255,000 Five Year Total
*Assume 25% depreciation of value over five years;
therefore, 75% of $3,000,000 = $2,250,00 total capital recapture
upon sale;
divided by 10 owners = $225,000 per owner capital recapture
(Please note: this estimate is hypothetical, as the selling price
cannot be predicted five years in advance.)

Frequently
Asked Questions
Where
will the yacht be based?
The yacht will strategically dock in conjunction with the most
desirable seasons and the optimal ports. For example, home port
will be located along the northeast coast of the United States
during the summer; in Florida, the Keys, the Bahamas, and Caribbean
during the winter.
How do I get to places that I desire to cruise?
From each of the designated home ports, you can travel on board
wherever you and the boat decide to cruise, returning the yacht
to its home port. If you choose a one way journey, the captain
will meet you with the boat, and/or return the yacht to home port
for you.
How do I schedule time aboard?
A calendar and itinerary will be posted on the YachtWise web site
under a special "Owners' Page". You can set your dates
by simply contacting the Yachtwise concierge via computer or telephone.
How much time can I reserve on the yacht?
Each owner is allowed to reserve one week in each of the three
seasonal home ports, plus additional times on a space available,
first request basis. Once the seasonal itinerary is set, you can
schedule on short notice or up to four months in advance to ensure
availability.
What if I want to use the yacht more than 28 days per year?
It is possible to own more than one share.
What about times when the yacht is not booked by owners?
The yacht is available for booking up to 280 days per year. The
rest of the time is reserved for maintenance, clean-up, haul-outs,
weather delays, and transportation of the yacht to its various
seasonal home ports.
Who owns the yacht?
A Delaware LLC, comprised of 10 owners ("Members"),
will own the yacht. Each Member owns his/her respective percentage
of the LLC in 10% increments. This format offers liability protection
for the yacht owners.
What expenses do I pay other than the annually budgeted monthly
maintenance/management fee?
Owners are responsible only for additional expenses incurred while
scheduled on board. This includes fuel consumed (home port to
home port), dockage away from home port, food and beverage.
Do I have to be on board for my guests to use my time?
Guests, family, and clients can use your yacht times without your
presence. The YachtWise concierge is available to arrange the
details.
I am concerned about partnering with multiple unknown owners.
YachtWise, by a 5-year management contract, is the sole manager
of the yacht. A single or small group of owner(s) cannot mandate
the boat's operation to the disadvantage of the other owners.
YachtWise's sole management control of the yacht removes potential
for owner-to-owner conflict. And, YachtWise's focused goal is
to maximize each owner's cruising experience.
Why a previously owned boat rather than a new boat?
After extensive research, YachtWise arrived at the conclusion
it was most advantageous to go with a previously owned boat that
has received the utmost attention and care, and is in top shape.
Like automobiles, a new boat will lose (up to) 25% of its value
immediately after it has been purchased.
What if my situation changes and I want to sell my ownership?
Owners are allowed to sell their memberships in the LLC to other
owners or outside parties, with YachtWise's assistance. Certain
conditions have been provided to protect the other owners.
